Ingredients
  

  • olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound pork sausage fresh, cut from the casing
  • 1 yellow onion large
  • 2 teaspoons garlic finely minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • a few splashes of dry red wine, optional
  • 2 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes, Italian-seasoned optional
  • ¹/₄ teaspoon red pepper flakes REQUIRED

Method
 

  1. add oil
  2. in dutch oven cook ground beef and sausage - until browned and well separated
  3. drain in strainer to get rid of fat
  4. add oil
  5. sautéed onion until softish
  6. add garlic oregano basil sauté until fragrant
  7. add wine to deglaze browned bits
  8. add tomatoes and red pepp
  9. bring to simmer
  10. add meat back
  11. simmer for 20 min
  12. taste it and season accordingly
  13. Serve
